Verilog creator joins tool startup

EE Times

SAN JOSE, Calif. — System tool vendor Co-Design Automation Inc. has recruited Phil Moorby, noted inventor of the Verilog HDL language and Verilog-XL simulator, to refine the company's Superlog system-level design language. The move strengthens startup Co-Design's bid to become the company that defines the predominant language for hardware and software co-design.

The appointment reunites Moorby with a colleague from his days of developing the HiLo simulator at Brunel University (Uxbridge, England): Peter Flake, chief technical officer and cofounder of Co-Design Automation, to whom Moorby will report.

In his new role as chief scientist of Co-Design, Moorby will refine Superlog to move it toward standardization and will define product architectures in the future.

Moorby was the first Fellow at Cadence Design Systems Inc. and was a cofounder of Gatew ay Design Automation, which has been part of Cadence since 1989. Most recently, he was an adviser to Co-Design while working at Synapix, a video automation company.
